Exam Information

There will be thirteen 40-min quizzes and one 2-hour final exam. The quizzes will be given in class every Monday and will cover the material presented the previous week.  No notes are allowed.  There are no makeups (but note that your two lowest scores will be dropped).

The Final Exam will be on Wednesday, May 6, from 8:00-10:00 pm.  Please contact Prof. Schmidt or Prof. DeYoung if you need to take the excused makeup for the Final Exam due to conflicts with other exams.  The Final Exam will cover all material discussed during the semester and will include 25-30 questions.  The types of questions will be similar to those on the quizzes.

You are responsible for bringing the following to the quizzes and final exam:
(i) A calculator. All exams will require the use of a calculator. Make sure that your calculator's batteries are fresh, as sharing of calculators will not be allowed. No other electronic devices (smartphone, phone, mp3-player, etc) are allowed.
(ii) A No. 2 pencil for filling out the scantron form.
Note that we may have a few pencils and calculators available at the quizzes.  We will not have any pencils or calculators at the Final Exam.

Students will be assigned seats (by rows) for the quizzes based on name.

Grading Information

Grades are based on the following formula:
Homework: 25%
13 quizzes: 50% (your two lowest quizzes will be dropped when calculating your quiz grade in the course)
Final exam: 25%
Course grades will be determined by the percentage of the total points obtained by each student, according to the scale below. Thresholds for grade levels may be lowered at the instructors' discretion, but will not be increased.
Percentage ........ Grade
p > 92% .............. 4.0
92% > p > 84% ... 3.5
84% > p > 76% ... 3.0
76% > p > 68% ... 2.5
68% > p > 60% ... 2.0
60% > p > 52% ... 1.5
52% > p > 44% ... 1.0
p < 44% ............... 0

Clicker Questions:
Interactive discussion questions will be asked during each lecture, to which you will respond using iClickers. Extra credit will be awarded for these questions, up to a maximum of 5% of the final course grade. Please be sure your clicker is working and tuned to the correct frequency, as no makeup credit will be available. However, only 80% of the possible clicker points are required to receive the full 5% extra credit.

Pre- and Post-course Assessments:
As part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality of instruction in the Department, ungraded assessment tests will be given to students at the beginning and the end of the course. We will award 1% extra credit to students who complete these assessments.
