How to obtain a local copy of KEGG
Fixed CD version
- The CD version of KEGG contains technologically more advanced features for integration of genetic information and functional (pathway) information. It can also be used by those users who do not have good network connection and/or who want to set up their own local environment.
- In contrast to the network version that is mostly based on CGI scripts, the CD version is written in Java and Javascript. It can be used on Macintosh and Windows with a Java-compatible browser, such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer.
- The CD release schedule is not fixed yet, but the latest version can be checked by the README file. If you are interested in receiving a copy for evaluation purposes, please write to www@genome.ad.jp.
Updated CD version
- Without actually making CDs, we update every week the CD version that may be downloaded by anonymous FTP from ftp://kegg.genome.ad.jp/CD/.
- If you are using UNIX, please check our anonymous FTP site regularly. You can share the downloaded files among your group by properly mounting on the network file system.
Internet version
- If you are servicing to a range of research community, you may consider mirroring the Internet version of KEGG. It is first necessary to install the DBGET system in your server machine for handling the LIGAND database. You may optionally keep local copies of other DBGET databases to be linked to KEGG.
- Basically the mirror site keeps its own version of the two definition tables. One is for the location of DBGET databases, whether they are located locally or over the network, and the other is for the location of linked databases that are to be anchored in the HTML pages.
- Because mirroring KEGG/DBGET requires resources and commitment to perform daily updates, please contact us first at www@genome.ad.jp.
