Anton de Bary (1831-1888)

Dr.med.; outstanding plant anatomist of the second half of the 19th century. He developed methods for isolating and cultivating fungi and algae and did thus generate the preconditions for the study of the interactions between fungi and hosts. His work led to the understanding of the whole life cycle of fungi. [Ber. Deutsch. Bot. Ges. 6,1 (1888)]
