Mitotic Stages in the Endosperm of Haemanthus katherinae, Photographed with an Interference Contrast Microscope

The photos were taken at different times after beginning of mitosis: a. 1.58 min (prophase), b. 2.12 min (late prophase, the nuclear envelope has already begun to disintegrate), c. 2.22 min, d. 3.03 min (metaphase, arrangement of the chromosomes in the equatorial plane, daughter chromosomes = chromatids),

e. 3.08 min (early anaphase), f. 3.18 min (anaphase), g. 3.33 min, h. 3.38 min. Mitosis together with the interphase stages is called cell cycle (A. BAJER, Eugene/Oregon).
