CYANELLES

The photography shows a cross-section through Glaucosphera vacuolata as seen through an electron microscope. The systematic position of Glaucosphera vacuolata remains controversial. Many authors take the ‘chloroplasts’ shown in the photography for cyanelles. The authors of the photography regards them as real chloroplasts and assign the species to the red algae (D. A. McCRACKEN, M. J. NADAKAVUKAREN, J. R. CAIN, 1980, Photo: M. J. N. , Illinois State University).
