Alexander von Humboldt (1769 - 1859)


>was a universial scholar and globetrotter. Among his subjects were geography, meteorology, botany, anthropology and several others. He travelled through South and Central America as well as through Central Asia. Beside this, he was among the founders of plant geography. From 1799 - 1803 he drew an exact map of the Andean vegetation that covered the area from latitude 10 degrees north to latitude 10 degrees south.
