In the páramo of the Sierra Nevada range of the Venezuelan Andes, the exotic genus Austrofossombronia was collected in a wet seep along the burro trail to Los Nevados. The site is denoted in the second photo by the white A.
Close up view of the Austrofossombronia population, mixed with mosses and other hepatics. The dense mat formed by the Austrofossombronia forms a "hanging bog" type of community in this seep.
