Structure of the light harvesting complex of photosystem II
The structure of light harvesting complex II from pea chloroplasts
The structure has been determined at 4.6 Å resolution by electron
diffraction studies of 2-D crystals by Werner Kühlbrandt, who kindly
provided the coordinates for this picture.
The data are provided for the Ca-atoms
only, shown here as spheres connected by a backbone.
In the initial view, the protein is seen in side view from the membrane
plane, with the stromal side up, and lumenal side down. Residues 55-89
are colored blue; 123-143 are purple; 170-203 are blue; 204-214 are purple.
These residues form three transmembrane helices, and a C-terminal transverse
helix at the aqueous interface.
Pigments are shown as ball-and-stick models.
Chlorophyll-a, green; chlorophyll-b, green-blue; lutein, orange.
