Tips and Suggestions:

1) Twenty-four hour lighting is essential for the success of your Fast Plants projects.

2) Fertilizer pellets are larger than Fast Plants seeds.

3) For easier seed handling, sprinkle a few seeds on a piece of scotch tape. Make a loop of the tape (sticky side out) and attach to a paper card. Each student can pick seeds off the seed tape when planting.

4) The watering system is based on wicking (capillary) action. The water mat draws water from the reservoir onto the platform. Wicks in the bottom of each growing system draw water into the potting mix.

5) Check placement of quads or film cans on water mat each day. Students may not have all of the wicks in contact with the water mat.

6) Check plants and water level daily. Fill the reservoir to the brim before the weekend.

7) Fast Plants must be thinned to one plant in each cell of the quad or 1-2 plants in a film can because space, potting mix and nutrient content is calculated.

8) Staking plants as they get taller is optional.

9) Fast Plants are edible, flowers and all.

10) Temperature can also be a factor in the growth and development of your Fast Plants. The optimal temperature range for your plant environment is 72º-82ºF. Remember that the temperature in the plant canopy under lights may be 1-3ºF warmer than room air temperature.
