Ethylene is derived from the cyclic amino acid, ACC which is itself a derivative of the more common amino acid methionine.

Ethylene can be used:

• in enclosed rooms and outdoors for a variety of purposes
• only in an enclosed room to ripen fruit
• to promote flower development in many kinds of plants
