Exam 2 MCB 229 Spring 2000
- Exam scores are posted here. Grades were scaled by the following equation:
[Raw % score] x 0.63 + 37.78 = scaled score.
This equation has maximum impact on low scores; for example, a raw grade of 35 becomes a 60. It has progressively less impact on high scores; a grade of 98 becomes 100.- Group scores were calculated and compared with the highest individual score for each group (neither score was scaled for this comparison). Where group scores were higher, this differential was added to each group member's score, up to a maximum of 5 points. Where scores were 0 or lower than the group's highest individual score, no group points were awarded (but no points were subtracted).
- For most columns, decimals are not shown, and numbers are rounded off to nearest integer. However, all course grade calculations are based on full decimal values as stored in my spreadsheet.
Column Header Explanation
- Password = last 5 digits of student ID
- % = % of correct answers (#correct/40 * 100). Mean = 64
- % scaled = (% raw x 0.63) + 37.78. Mean = 78
- Graw = Group points raw. Amount by which group exam % score differed from raw % score of group's highest scorer.
- Gall = Group points allowed. Adjusted difference between highest individual scorer and group score (limited to 5 points maximum group bonus, all negative values converted to zero.). Mean = 3.1
- Ex2Fin = Adjusted score for exam #2 (includes scaling and group points). Mean = 81
- Ex1Fin = Adjusted score for exam #2 (includes scaling and group points). Mean = 81
