Governmental Web Sites:

This is a new section within PESTICIDES which will link you to governmental web sites. I have just started this section (march 14, 2000) with sites in Germany, USA and UK. I will add more sites as soon as possible. Hope you will find it useful.


Germany:
Biologische Bundesanstalt für Land- und Forstwirtschaft (BBA), Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (BBA), Berlin, Braunschweig. BBA Research and Administrative Organization attached to the BML. BBA is engaged in plant pathology, entomology, plant protection and related fields. Fields of Activity: Examining & Authorizing Plant Protection Products, Testing & Approval of Plant Protection Equipment, Estimating the Risks of Genetechnology, Representing German Interests, Assuring the Quality of Plant Products, Optimizing the Application of Chemical Plant Protection Products and more. Available: databases, publications, laws and more. Here you will find the Index of authorised plant protection products. Information in German and English.

Germany: Bundesministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Forsten (BML), Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry, Bonn, Berlin. Beside the task areas suggested by its name the BML is primarily involve the representation of German interests at international and European levels. Here you will find the agriculture report for Germany, research areas, risk reduction in the field of plant protection products, data & facts, services and more. Information is provided in German, English and French.

Germany: Umweltbundesamt (UBA), Federal Environmental Agency, Berlin. The UBA comprises for division. Division IV is covering the Safety of Chemicals and Gene Technology which includes plant protection products. UBA is working on environmental issues of pesticides as it is deteremined by German laws (e.g. German Plant Protection Act). Information in German and English.

United Kingdom: Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Fodd (MAFF), London. In the area of 'Plants & Seeds' MAFF seeks to safeguard and improve the health & quality of commercially produced plants & plant products. It applies statutory controls in England and Wales to implement the European Union plant health regime, including action against quarantine pests and diseases, registration of producers and monitoring of plant material in trade. This area comprises the Plant Health Division (PHD), Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate (PHSI) or the Central Science Laboratory (CSL). You will find information on pests & diseases as well as certicicating schemes and marketing regulations. Pesticide topics can also be found in food safety or environment. In 'Forms & Regulation' you will find guidelines concerning plant protection products in the agricultural topics section of Direct Access Government.

United Kingdom: Pesticide Safety Directorate (PSD), an executive agency of MAFF, based in York. PSD’s principal functions are to evaluate and process applications for approval of pesticide products for use in Great Britain and provide advice to Government on pesticides policy. Information on Local Environmental Risk Assessments For Pesticides (LERAP), forms & guideance, news and more.

USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA'S mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment (air, water, land). The EPA main site provides two menus, on the left side divided into interest groups and the main menu is divided into topics. Topics are: offices & labs, publications, news, projects, databases, laws & regulations and more. The interests goups menu is including kids, scientists, citizens, industry and more. In 'laws' you will find the federal register database for documents or major environmental laws (FIFRA, FQPA...).

USA Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP), Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances (OPPTS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). OPP'S mission is to protect public health and the environment from the risks posed by pesticides and to promote safer means of pest control. OPP's major activities areas (list can be found in about OPP): (1) Antimicrobial, (2) Pesticide Registration, (3) Reregistration, (4) Special Review, (5) Field Implementation and Communications, (6) Policy, Regulations and Guidance, (7) Information and Program Management, (8) Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention. In pesticide registration you will find general information on applying for registration, forms, registration kit, fact sheets, guidance (e.g. CADDY). Further available: pesticide science, programs & projects, state, local & tribal, international activities, pages for kids and more. On the start the lates news will be displayed. Here is a huge mass of information and it will take some time to become familiar. Try the search if you can find the requested information.

USA United States department of Agriculture (USDA). Agencies (selected): Risk Management Agency, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Cooperative State Research, Education, & Extension Service (CSREES), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), National Agricultural Library (NAL) among others related to agriculture and plant pathology. Main sections: about USDA, newsroom, services & programs, agencies, search & help. On the entrance screen you will also find the issue section (e.g. biotechnology or food safety).
