The example below shows counts of the numbers of species of sibiricus-group bumble bees among equal-area grid cells (c. 611,000 km2). The richer areas are shown in orange, the poorer areas are shown in dark blue, and the numbers show the number of species (below):

The genealogical classification of species on the right shows the fauna (traced in red and black) of the richest grid cell on the map, Ecuador (highlighted with the magnifying glass). In this case, all of the bees in this richest fauna are very closely related and very similar.
