We learn by doing: these files are designed to help you review class material and are not a substitute for taking notes in lecture.
I've listed four different
versions of the lecture files to make access easier (see below
for description). Full versions have textbook (Campbell) figures
so you'll need the class password to open them.
The PowerPoint (PP) files require free PowerPoint viewer to view (see bottom
of page for info on configuring your browser) and the PDF versions require
Adobe
Acrobat.
PP text version = Color Power Point files without the textbook figures. The figures are replaced with a reference to the textbook figure number and are small enough to download and view quickly over a modem connection.PP full version = Color Power Point files containing the figures from the textbook. The textbook figures are copyrighted by the publisher and so require the course password to access. Ask Barry or a fellow student in the class for the password. These files are also extremely large (2-3 MB) and so cannot be viewed quickly over a modem connection.
Acrobat text version = Black and white Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files without the figures from the textbook. The figures are replaced with a reference to the textbook figure number and are small enough to download and view quickly over a modem connection.
If you don't have it already, get the Acrobat viewer from Adobe here.Acrobat full version = Black and white Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files containing the figures from the textbook. The textbook figures are copyrighted by the publisher and so require the course password to access. Ask Barry or a fellow student in the class for the password. These files are also intermediate in size (1-2 MB) and so cannot be viewed as quickly as the text version over a modem connection.
A) download the files to your hard disk with a right click ("save as" function) then open from within PowerPoint. Microsoft has a free viewer if you don't have PowerPoint (or an older version). Get PPView97.exe for Windows here or here. For the Mac Ppt98vw.hqx try here or here.B) If you have PowerPoint or the viewer and you want to open the files from you browser, configure your browser to launch PowerPoint as described below.
Some lecture notes are in the form of Microsoft PowerPoint97 presentations.
To view them from within your web browser you need to have Microsoft's
PowerPoint viewer installed on your local PC. If you have Office97 installed
then the viewer is already present on your machine; skip to step two. Otherwise,
you can download for free the Powerpoint Reader from the Microsoft web
site. Follow these steps.
1. Download the PowerPoint Reader software from Microsoft
and execute the self-extracting file that downloads to your local hard
disk.
Within Netscape, this is done by opening the Preferences panel and going to Applications under the heading Navigator. In the list of applications that shows up in the right-hand panel, find Microsoft PowerPoint Show and click on it and press the Edit button. In the list of extensions you should find PPT listed. The MIME type should be application/vnd.ms-powerpoint and under Handled By it should say Application and the pathname for your Powerpoint viewer should be showing in the accompanying window. If any of these conditions are not correct, either correct them there in the Edit Type, or else click Cancel and then delete and create it again with the correct properties. |
