A cotton vegetative branch

In cotton, vegetative branches repeat much the same developmental sequence as the main stem. They can arise from any axillary bud, including those on reproductive branches, but they most commonly develop from buds at main stem nodes 4 and 5. This image shows a vegetative branch which is bearing three fruiting branches.
