Ethnobotanical training in Thailand

From 15 – 26 July 1999, Gary J. Martin, regional coordinator for Southeast Asia, presented a course on ethnobotany for fifth year students of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany of Khon Kaen University in northeast Thailand. Its goal was to present a broad overview of ethnobotany for undergraduates, and to teach them practical methods for carrying out ethnobotanical fieldwork. Outlines of the lectures and practical exercises are presented here, in the hope that they will be useful to other lecturers around the world who teach ethnobotany at the undergraduate or graduate level. In addition, there is a synopsis of the course structure, showing how lectures and practical exercises have been blended with videos and small group discussions in this intensive course.

If you have any questions or suggestions about these outlines, please write to Gary J. Martin at the following e-mail address: peopleandplants@cybernet.net.ma
